A Dog’s Summer – Blues in and Around Tallahassee

Tallahassee has emerged a city central to the fabulous music known as the “Blues.” There are several hotspots in the area to catch the latest Blues musicians performing their hearts out. Restaurants, such as a Chez Pierre, are a great place to enjoy a meal and catch some tunes. There clubs entirely devoted to this music such as the Bradford Blues Club. Every year, there is a huge multi-day event known as the Tallahassee Blues Festival that showcases the latest styles of the Blues, as well as shows appreciation to the original performers of this style. Chez Pierre is the place to be if you enjoy live Blues music. Every Wednesday thru Saturday, sit on the back deck and submerge yourself in this soulful music while chowing down on the great eats at this popular French bistro style restaurant. Drew Tillman is one of their more popular performers. Tillman’s music is rooted in the Blues. He has won numerous competitions for his unique style.

Only open on Friday and Saturday nights, Bradford Blues Club is a spot not to be missed by the diehard Blues fan. The joint is adorned in photos of the top Blues performers of all time. Off the beaten path, this one-room cinder block club hosts a bonfire where music is shared and you can spend some time getting to know the artists. Ice cold bottled beer and a variety of wines are available for your enjoyment while you sit back, relax, and enjoy the legendary music.

The Tallahassee Blues Festival is an annual event, usually held in February of each year. It features three different stages with more than 25 unique acts in the Tallahassee Leon County Civic Center. This two day event gives fans a chance to catch true live Blues at its best!
